Record Turnout at The European Sovereign Cloud Day 2026 Signals Sovereignty's Rise Up the EU Agenda

24 June 2026

On 24 June, Forum Europe convened The European Sovereign Cloud Day 2026 in Brussels, assembling EU decision-makers, national government officials, global cloud providers, and regulatory authorities to address the future of Europe’s digital autonomy.

Reflecting the rapid escalation of data sovereignty and cloud policy on the EU agenda, this year’s edition reached full capacity with an extended waitlist. The hybrid forum brought together 400+ attendees spanning 265 organisations across 30 countries. Demonstrating the strategic priority of the issue, the audience was heavily composed of C-suite executives, senior directors, and leading legal and policy specialists.

The high-level programme featured 30 expert speakers from EU institutions and industry leadership. Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy at the European Commission, delivered a keynote address reinforcing the Commission's strategic direction on Europe's digital sovereignty agenda. High-level insights were also delivered by senior officials from DG DIGIT, DG CNECT, the European Parliament, and the German Federal Ministry, alongside executive leadership from major providers including OVHcloud, Broadcom, and IONOS.

Key themes across the day examined the Cloud and AI Development Act (CADA) frameworks, the EUCS certification scheme, navigating hyperscaler market concentration, and closing the gap between policy language and real-world public procurement.

As AI adoption scales and regulatory frameworks like NIS2 come into force, the exchange highlighted a clear consensus: European cloud sovereignty has transitioned from abstract ambition to a critical operational priority.
