Forum Europe works with Broadcast Networks Europe on 5G Broadcast: Horizons for Europe

Broadcast network operators urge European policymakers to support the deployment of 5G Broadcast technology through the 5G Broadcast live demonstration event.
The 5G Broadcast: Horizons for Europe event took place at Cardo Hotel, Brussels on 11 December 2025 and featured a series of live 5G Broadcast demonstrations delivered directly to mobile handsets from a high rise transmitter in downtown Brussels. A full house of participants from the European Commission, government ministries, regulation authorities and industry partners gathered to witness first hand as multiple broadcast network operators came together to present different 5G Broadcast demonstrations.

The demonstration event was organised by Broadcast Networks Europe (BNE) with the technical support of Media Broadcast and Belgian Tower Company. Organisation and logistics was carried out by us at Forum Europe.
5G Broadcast technology enables citizens to receive linear video and audio, as well as data, on their mobile devices without the need for a SIM card or a mobile Internet subscription. Content reaches the user via existing terrestrial broadcast infrastructure and can be seamlessly integrated with on demand content delivery. 5G Broadcast can also deliver emergency alert messages to smartphones, even when the fixed and mobile networks fail, for instance in case of catastrophic event or black out.
The event began with opening remarks from Arnaud Lucaussy, Chair, Broadcast Networks Europe and Secretary General of TDF, discussing the new era for media and sovereignty. gave opening remarks. South 180’s Co-founder and Research Director, David Fernández Quijada gave a presentation of a new report, “5G Broadcast - Horizons for Europe”, recently commissioned by Broadcast Networks Europe and conducted by South180, which highlights the benefits of 5G broadcast technology. The keynote address was delivered by Antonio Arcidiacono, Director of Technology and Innovation, EBU, who covered the readiness of 5G broadcasting in Europe. A series of use cases were delivered by a range of partners, demonstrating the 5G technology for attendees to interact with first hand. The demonstrations concluded with a call to action for European institutions to launch legislative and consultative processes to secure the future of 5G broadcasting.
