Looking back at the 9th Asia-Pacific Spectrum Management Conference

2 May 2023

The 9th edition of the Asia-Pacific Spectrum Management Conference  took place on 25-26 April. We welcomed speakers and delegates back to the Marriott Sukhumvit, Bangkok, for our first Global Spectrum Series event of 2023.

We were joined by over 280 delegates in person, and an additional 150+ delegates joined virtually from around the globe. Over 35 countries from within the Asia-Pacific region were able to attend the event in Bangkok, along with more from further afield.

Throughout the 2 days, we were joined by key stakeholders who took to the stage to discuss the key spectrum topics within the region including WRC-23, range of frequencies, 5G advanced, the future of satellites and NTNs, and affordable last mile connectivity. We also heard case studies from areas within the Asia-Pacific region, including Bangladesh, India, Vanuatu, and China. This provided a real insight into the spectrum roadmaps for each of these countries within the region.

To open proceedings, our keynote speakers Mario Maniewicz, Director, Radiocommunication Bureau, ITU, Masanori Kondo, Secretary General, Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT), and Saneh Saiwong, Principal Engineering Expert, NBTC and shared their insights before welcoming the panelists to the stage. Mario Maniewicz stated that “Global harmonization is relevant to all regions and as far as possible this should be a starting point for all of us when considering WRC”. Taking place later this year, WRC-23 was a key topic for those who participated in the panels.
