As we continue on the pathway out of the crisis, this year’s conference will explore the vision for the next generation European financial system with contributions from key policymakers, industry participants and other stakeholders in financial services.

Opening the event and setting the scene for the detailed discussions to follow is a keynote interview with Verena Ross, Chair, European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), which is set to explore the EU supervisory perspective on risks in the market; the Green Deal agenda; and the acceleration of digital, remote services.

A fireside chat entitled ‘New ambitions, new visions – redefining Europe’s financial services systems’ will follow featuring Francesco Ceccato, CEO at Barclays Europe, Santo Borsellino, Chairman at Generali Insurance Asset Management (GIAM), and Alexandra Jour-Schroeder, Deputy Director-General, DG FISMA at the European Commission. The panel will look to address what kind of future we see being shaped by the current legislative and regulatory focus and offer judgements on whether this will position Europe’s financial system for global competitiveness or stagnation.

During the second session ‘From ideas to delivery – turning principles into real life benefits for Europeans’, our panellists will break down how the new set of sustainable-first principles, which are set to mobilise capital, strengthen corporate governance and accountability, and grow Europe’s economy, can be made a reality, and fuel Europe’s historic transition of its regulatory system. Attention will then turn to the overlapping worlds of finance, fintech and big tech during the third session ‘The digital single market for financial services – regulating services rather than institutions’ with panellists drawing conclusions on what this means for citizens, businesses large and small, and supervisors.
