Happy Data Privacy Day!
28 January 2022

Every year on 28 January, Data Privacy Day is celebrated across the world. It’s an opportunity to raise awareness around data privacy and protection best practices, and a way to encourage individuals to do what is necessary to take back control over their data by re-thinking both their responsibilities and rights as citizens in the age of data.
At Forum Europe and Forum Global, we focus on these principles year-round with our programme of Data Protection and Privacy events which create opportunities for leading global policymakers, industry players, high level privacy experts to gather and discuss the most pertinent and timely issues in the field.
Last year, we hosted the 3rd edition of our Data Privacy Conference USA on September 29, featuring contributions from Senators Amy Klobuchar, Marsha Blackburn, Kirsten Gillibrand and Ed Markey, alongside Congressman Gus Bilirakis & Deputy Secretary of Commerce Don Graves. The focus of the day was on ‘Reigniting Trust in the Digital Tech’ with discussions around the push to break the deadlock to enact a federal privacy law; data privacy in the context of the transatlantic relationship; what Artificial Intelligence means for privacy and civil rights; behavioural advertising and consumers’ protection & the interrelation between data privacy and antitrust. You can take a look at the highlights from the 2021 edition here and full replays of the sessions here.
On 2 December, the 11th edition of our European Data Protection & Privacy Conference took place virtually for an audience of over 450 people with speeches from European Commission VP Vera Jourova, Slovenian Justice Minister Marjan Dikaučič and French Justice Minister Éric Dupond-Moretti. Over 5 sessions, we looked at the intersection of the data privacy and competition regulatory spheres; ways to bolster the GDPR; Artificial Intelligence and the creation of data spaces for the public good; the future outlook for international data transfers and the privacy and the protection of children online. You can find the replays of all of the sessions here.
We are looking forward to holding the next editions of both of these events in 2022. If you’d like to get involved, please reach out to the team at info@forum-europe.com.
