Forum Europe welcomed European Ministers and key players of the Digital Single Market to The 2nd Digital Services Act Conference
12 March 2021
Building on the success of the inaugural The Digital Services Act Week last summer, Forum Europe’s 2nd Digital Services Act Conference took place on 4 March 2021 and attracted over 800 European and national policymakers, European and global industry players as well as representatives from the civil society.
The conference featured keynote speeches from The Netherlands' State Secretary, Mona Keijzer; French Secretary of State, Cédric O; and Marek Zagórski, Poland’s Minister of Digital Affairs - all supporting the European Commission's work on the DSA and the DMA while focussing on issues that are key to the visions of their respective countries on these issues.
Across the day, other expert speakers including Werner Stengg, Cabinet Expert for Executive Vice President Margrethe Vestager; MEP Christel Schaldemose, MEP Evelyne Gebhardt and DG CONNECT’s Gerard de Graaf, Prabhat Agarwal and Irene Roche Laguna examined the Commission’s Digital Services Act (DSA) and Digital Markets Act (DMA) proposals with industry players, member states and civil society representatives shedding light on key issues for debate, including:
- Platforms’ responsibility, online content, and the liability regime;
- How the DSA can protect consumers online from illegal goods without stifling trade;
- How the DSA proposal affords users greater control online, and how it could change the online advertising landscape;
- Whether the DMA’s proposed scope and definition of “gatekeeper” platforms is sufficient.
Thank you to everyone that attended the event, as well as our event sponsors, Alibaba and DOT Europe. Replays of all of the sessions are available on our YouTube page, here , and you can read a summary of issues from Access Partnership here.
We look forward to hosting the 3rd Digital Services Act Conference next year and to provide a platform for continuing discussions on the DSA and DMA.
