Catch up on the high-level sessions from the 19th Annual European Financial Services Conference

The 19th Annual European Financial Services Conference took place on 15 June as a fully virtual event, welcoming over 350 attendees and 21 top-level speakers.

The first session welcomed 4 CEOs - Francesco Ceccato (Barclays Europe), Gabriele Galateri di Genola (Generali), Anne Richards (Fidelity International) and David Schwimmer (London Stock Exchange Group) with moderator David Reed (Kreab) - to discuss how various financial sectors would 'build back better', giving their view on the best route out of the COVID-19 crisis. Slovenian Finance Minister Andrej Šircelj also delivered a keynote, addressing the upcoming Slovenian presidency and his thoughts on the current economic situation.

The ESG panel discussed sustainable investment, the evolution of ESG, the impact of COVID on the EU sustainable finance agenda and much more. Moderated by Victor van Hoorn (Eurosif), the panellists included Marcel Haag (European Commission), Paul Tang (European Parliament), Jane Ambachtsheer (BNP Paribas Fortis), Stephanie Butcher (Invesco) and Ingrid Holmes (Green Finance Institute).

Our CBDC panel addressed the future of the digital euro including the risks and benefits, as well as the development of a CBDC in various countries including in Europe. Moderator Lawrence Wintermeyer (Global Digital Finance) was joined by Danuta Hübner (European Parliament), Javier Pérez-Tasso (Swift), Paolo Bertoluzzo (Nexi) and Ulrich Bindseil (European Central Bank).

The final session of the conference gathered top representatives from the EU - John Berrigan (European Commission), US - Sharon Yang (US Treasury) and UK - Katharine Braddick (HM Treasury), to converse on the relationships between the respective financial sectors and what each country sees as the key policy priorities going forward. The session was moderated by Henne Schuwer (Kreab).
