The Interdependence Summit – Looking ahead at what the EU’s priorities should be in 2020

The Interdependence Summit – the first edition of Encompass Live - took place on January 30th at the Steigenberger Wiltcher’s hotel in Brussels. The day was kick started with an opening interview from European Commission Vice President for Promoting the European Way of Life Margaritis Schinas, interviewed by Heather Grabbe, Director, Open Society European Policy Institute. Later in the day we also had the opportunity to hear from Pia Ahrenkilde Hansen, Director General, DG Communication, Astrid Ladefoged, Head of Unit for Sustainable Development Goals, Green Finances & Economic Analysis, DG Environment, Peter Power, Head of Cabinet, Trade Commissioner Phil Hogan, Katrina Williams, UK Deputy Permanent Representative to the EU and Former UK Permanent Representative to the EU, Ivan Rogers along with industry expert Emma Navarro Vice President, European Investment Bank.

With sessions focusing on how to make the EU fit for the digital age, over 150 delegates heard from a line up of top level policy makers and European experts addressing questions surrounding the EU's Green Deal, disinformation, budget negotiation, trade blocks & migration whilst putting emphasis on the importance of engaging as many people as possible to focus on the future of Europe.
