‘The Green Deal & The Recovery Plan’ | A new economic model for Europe?

27 May 2020

Today, the European Commission presented its proposals for the European economic recovery fund in the context of the COVID 19 crisis. The long-awaited framework will be the EU’s greatest instrument to boost the bloc’s economy following the COVID-19 crisis, with the focus being on the need for a green, digital & fair recovery.

As part of our newly launched Under the Spotlight series, Forum Europe will host an online debate titled ‘The Green Deal & The Recovery Plan | A new economic model for Europe?’ on Friday 29 May at 10:00 CEST. Featuring a number of senior and influential speakers, and with more than 900 people registered to attend, this event will offer one of the first opportunities to debate the European Commission’s recovery plan and the likelihood of a true green recovery.

The session will reflect on the EU’s announcements and look at the environmental opportunities that have arisen as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic. Is there an opportunity to re-orientate the economy towards substantially more sustainable practices and what would this look like? What will be the approach vis a vis state aid rules and how will areas such as agriculture, the circular economy and digitalisation all inform Europe’s green recovery?

The discussion will be headed up by Daniel Calleja Crespo, Director General, DG Environment, European Commission, Terhi Lehtonen, State Secretary for Environment, Finland, Miapetra Kumpula-Natri, MEP, & Sandrine Dixson-Decleve, Co-President, Club of Rome.

This event will be taking place using Forum Europe’s virtual solution – Forum Vision. For more information, and to register your place for free, please visit the event website.
