Take home themes at Forum Europe's 5th Annual Future of Transport Conference 2020

Forum Europe’s Future of Transport conference returned to Brussels for its 5th edition on the 3rd March 2020. Gathering over 240 delegates, we listened to a senior line-up of transport experts across European institutions, national regulators and industry stakeholders throughout the day.  

Henrik Hololei, Director General - DG Home opened the conference with a key message, that is the future of transport is in both sustainable and smart mobility. Mikael Nyberg, Director-General and High Representative of the Ministry of Transport & Communications of Finland echoed a similar message. He highlighted three main areas in building a successful future of transport system – data sharing, mobility as a service and sustainability.

We then kicked off the first panel discussion focussing on connectivity in the future vehicle where a lively debate took place between Claire Depré - Head of Unit for Intelligent Transport Systems from DG MOVE, Fabrizio Cortesi - Director of Policy and Strategy, Public Affairs from Huawei Technologies, Dr. Abayomi Otubushin - Senior Manager of Government and External Affairs from BMW, Serge van Dam - Co-Chair of the Connected and Automated Driving Group from CEDR and Joost Vantomme, Smart Mobility Director from ACEA.   

More panel discussions took place throughout the day including transport safety and the role of transport in decarbonization. These sessions were led by Fotini Ioannidou - Head of Unit for Road Safety from DG MOVE, Pierre-Olivier Millette - Associate Director from Intel, Graziella Jost - Projects Director from European Transport Safety Council, Alex Paquot, Head of Unit for Road Transport in DG CLIMA, Jean-François Aguinaga, Head of Unit for Future Urban & Mobility Systems from DG Research & Innovation, William Todts - Executive Director from Transport & Environment, Dr Manfred Rudhart - Chief Executive Officer of Arriva and Hanno Klausmeier - Managing Director of SAP Labs.
