Introducing the Tech Policy Talks
28 May 2020
On 7 May, Forum Europe organised – in collaboration with Qualcomm - the first edition of the ‘Tech Policy Talks’, a series of invitation-only, interactive roundtable sessions that bring together policy and business experts to discuss timely and context-relevant tech issues.
Entitled ‘Connectivity and the Digital Transformation: Overcoming current challenges and delivering digital leadership’, the inaugural Tech Policy Talk focused on the development of future 5G for industry verticals and, more broadly, on the role the Commission, governments and industries can play in ensuring we keep the digitalisation of societies and industries in Europe on track against the backdrop of the current crisis.
Opening this Tech Policy Talk was Lorenzo Casaccia, Vice President, Technology Standards & 5G Standards Lead, Qualcomm with a presentation on ‘5G standardisation at the times of Covid-19’. Eva Maydell, MEP, then provided remarks on the political importance of investments in, and the rollout of, 5G networks in the European economy, before joining a wider panel discussion with Peter Stuckmann, Head of Unit, Future Connectivity Systems, DG Connect, European Commission, Marcin Cichy, President of the Office of Electronic Communications, Republic of Poland and Wassim Chourbaji, Senior Vice President for Government Affairs Europe, Middle East and North Africa, Qualcomm.
The event concluded with an interactive roundtable discussion, to which all participants could contribute by joining the speakers on the virtual ‘stage’. Screenshots from the event can be viewed here: https://techpolicytalks.com/session-1/
