The Caribbean Spectrum Management Conference

New to the Global Spectrum Series for 2024, the inaugural Caribbean Spectrum Management Conference took place on 14 – 15 May 2024 in Montego Bay, Jamaica. The conference was kindly hosted by the Spectrum Management Authority (SMA) Jamaica, alongside a Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) Spectrum Management Taskforce Meeting.

High-level policymakers and leading industry experts gathered at the Half Moon Resort in Montego Bay to discuss the key topics affecting the management and coordination of Spectrum in the region and beyond, including WRC-23, the Caribbean Spectrum Management Policy Framework, key mind-band frequencies, the rollout of 5G, non terrestrial networks, spectrum awards, pricing and licencing and spectrum disaster relief and emergency management.

Each day of the conference opened with a 'Breakfast Briefing', which provided an introduction to some of the key themes and issues to be covered in detail during the sessions that followed. We were delighted to hear keynote addresses from distinguished speakers to open the conference officially, followed by 2 days of sessions and interactive discussions, where participants shared their best practices and insights.

The conference saw a turnout of 150 attendees participating in person and an additional 200 following the livestream. The event featured more than 50 speakers across nine panel sessions and three keynote speeches. Networking opportunities, such as a pre-conference dinner kindly hosted by Viasat and a networking reception following the first day of proceedings, allowed time for informal discussion and debate amongst delegates, with entertainment kindly provided by one of the partner organisations, Sennheiser.
