About the Event

Forum Global's Annual Data Privacy Conference USA returned to Washington D.C on September 19th and gathered 180+ participants including legislators, regulators, industry representatives, Hill staffers, and civil society experts to explore the US’s response to a dynamically evolving data privacy landscape.

Gathering prominent lawmakers, regulators, government agencies, industry leaders and privacy experts, the conference explored the ongoing need for further action in the data privacy realm, considering the broader technological regulatory shifts that have reverberated across the globe.
The conference delved into the current state of data privacy legislation within the United States, offering insights into what could be anticipated in the medium to long-term as well as examine avenues for enhanced cooperation between different regions worldwide, focusing on the facilitation of the free flow of data. Distinguished speakers also focused on the complex challenge of balancing the protection of individuals against the potential risks associated with data collection while encouraging positive innovation. These discussions unfold in the context of the deployment of cutting-edge AI technologies and the use of sensitive health and children's data.

This conference is an annual event providing a meeting place for the data privacy community in the US and beyond. This was the fifth edition of the Data Privacy Conference USA, building on the success of the previous four US editions and of 12 editions of the European Data Protection & Privacy conference held every year in Brussels. It is part of Forum Global / Forum Europe’s Own-Initiative division where our event producers conceive, plan and deliver event programmes focused on the critical pillars of EU policy. We work independently and alongside policymakers, the civil society as well as industry stakeholders to ensure the content remains timely and relevant

Highlights of the fifth edition:

• Keynote speeches from Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers, Chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, US House of Representatives; Senator Marsha Blackburn, Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, and Data Security, US Senate; Mason Clutter, Chief Privacy Officer, U.S. Department of Homeland Security
• A high-level discussion between Loyaan A. Egal, Chief of the Enforcement Bureau and leader of the Privacy and Data Protection Task Force, Federal Communications Commission & Brandon J. Pugh, Esq. Director, Cybersecurity and Emerging Threats, R Street Institute
• Insightful conversations on the US data privacy and security legislative landscape; the importance of interoperability of data governance systems globally to enable cross-border data flows; how effective data privacy protection can be achieved to build trust and confidence in AI; protecting children’s privacy and online safety and data privacy in healthcare
